Academics
Archdiocesan Curriculum Standards for the 21st Century
The Academy of St. Benedict the African is committed to providing a rigorous academic curriculum based on the teachings of the Catholic Church and infused with elements of Catholic Social Teaching. Rooted in basic skills and coupled with innovative programs embedded in 21st century literacies, our curriculum prepares young people for college, career, and life. To that end, all curriculum standards reflect a continuum of learning from pre-kindergarten through to graduation in high school. All curriculum documents are in alignment with national standards, exceed the Common Core State Standards, and correspond to the high expectations set by the Office of Catholic Schools.
We recognize the importance of teaching the whole child, of preserving traditions that make us strong and with an eye on the future that ensures hope and success. We recognize that it is only through the fluency of information that students can think conceptually, and it is through a safe, nurturing environment that students realize and
reach their full potential.
School Day runs from 7:45am - 3:10pm Monday-Friday
Early Childhood
Preschool – Second Grade
The Early Childhood program is child-centered and assists each child in becoming an independent member of an interdependent community. As we strive to develop a sense of responsibility and concern for others, basic skills are integrated through daily differentiated learning centers and a variety of special programs.
Students in kindergarten through 2nd grade participate in daily differentiated learning in math and language arts and attend weekly specials including gym, STEM, music and dance. Students benefit from the use of technology in all subject areas through iPads and smartboards in each classroom.
Elementary
Third Grade – Fifth Grade
The Elementary program aims to provide a well-rounded education that prepares students for the challenges of middle school and beyond.
Students in 3rd through 5th grade engage in extracurricular specials, including gym, STEM, music and dance, receiving opportunities for students to develop social skills, creativity and critical thinking abilities.
Students benefit from the use of 1:1 technology in all subject areas through iPads and smartboards in each classroom.
